AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté is the newest member of World of Tanks premium family. It seems like the theme Wargaming is going for with the last couple of premium tank additions is to make vehicles that are paid with hard currency a lot more competitive. So competitive that one could argue too competitive. One of the things you can’t miss when cruising around WoT forums is the term Pay to Win in correlation to these new premiums. Certainly the tier 8 Scorpion doesn’t seem like the fairest of tanks. Great camo, mobility and firepower could make even Rhm. blush.
But, let us focus on the new bagel nation tank…
AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté is a tier 8 premium French heavy tank. Unlike his counterpart, FCM 50t, this is a real extra heavy tank. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a -2/+1 match making, but you’ll soon realise that it doesn’t need a premium MM to perform good. Currently it’s only available on Russian server but we should expect it on EU servers soon enough.
Main tank features
Caliber (mm): 100
Penetration (mm): 232
Reload Time (s): 9.88
Rate of Fire (rnds/min): 6.07
Aim Time (s): 2.78
Dispersion (m): 0.35
Shell velocity (m/s): 1000
In terms of firepower, the AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté can certainly hold its ground. The overall DPM is quite low when compared to other tier 8 heavy tanks. But the high alpha damage does make it up in my eyes. Still the DPM is higher than the one on T34. Penetration wise this is probably the highest one on any tier 8 heavy tank. So no additional shell cost can be a great benefit. You can reliably pen even the best armored tier 10 tanks if aimed correctly.
Hit points: 1,500
Hull Armour (f/s/r mm): 180 / 55 / 40
Turret Armour (f/s/r mm): 250 / 120 / 60
Top Armour (mm): 45
Armour wise the new premium seems extremely strong. Without at least 240 mm of penetration you won’t even be scratching the paint of this beast frontally. However, like most tanks, it does have a quite weak commanders hatch. With will aimed shots 70mm+ should be enough but it won’t be the easiest of targets to hit. Side and rear armour are absolute garbage so make sure that you’re facing your foes directly. Don’t bother to angle the tank either as the most effective armour values are when pointing it straight forward.
Top Speed (km/h): 40
Reverse Speed (km/h): 15
Power (hp): 1,000
Power/Weight (hp/t): 14.35
Tank Traverse (°/sec): 25
Unlike FCM 50t, this heavy tank does behave like a real heavy in terms of mobility. Don’t expect to be blazing around the battlefield like FCM, but the new AMX isn’t that slow tank in heavy weight class. One of the biggest drawbacks is certainly the hidden Terrain Resistance statistics.
AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté is already one of my most favorite premium tanks. The amount of credits it can potentially earn in a single battle is absolutely huge. No premium rounds needed makes it even better in that regard. When it comes to real life asking price, it’s around the one of FCM 50t, which in my eyes isn’t that much for a beast you’re getting. The only real question if you’re in the market for a premium tank is should you go for AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté over the new tier 8 Skorpion.
