Civilization VI: What We Know So Far
Civilization VI is just around the corner and in this article I’m going to tell you all you need to know about it.
What is Civilization VI
As the name implies Civilization VI is the sixth game in popular Sid Meier’s franchise. At its core this is a 4X turn-based strategy game. For all of you not really introduced to term 4X I’ll tell you that 4X stands for – eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. And these are of course four dominant gameplay elements that are self-explanatory. Civilization series is considered to be a uncrowned king when it comes to turn-based strategy games. And it does enjoys much deserved respect in gaming community. Civilization VI is scheduled to hit the shelves October 21st.
This paragraph is devoted to all gameplay changes and interesting features that we know about so far.
The biggest change for me is probably the alteration in how the city building works. To be exact how upgrading last mentioned works. All the city upgrades must be places in hexes that are connected to the city you want to upgrade. This improvement building won’t be stacked in the hex that the city is anymore. Instead, now they’re considered as city districts. They will also have various terrain modifiers based on multiple different factors. For example, some districts when places on a certain terrain type might give your troops some bonuses. While other districts can modify something else. In any way I think that this is a great change which I’m very much looking forward to.
Next big change comes with unit stacking. Previously players couldn’t do that and it caused world map to look really congested. However, in Civ VI that won’t be a problem anymore as some type of units can join with others under a same banner. But do note that not all units can live in harmony. Meaning that only similar types of units can join forces. In the early game grouping your builders with warriors seems like a great idea.
The technology tree. In Civilization VI there’s no more tech tree. Instead players will be getting active research system. This will allow them to progress down a certain path in hope of winning that X race. The new feature added to this overhauled tech tree system are the Eureka Moments. The effect when reaching them will boost players progression in current research path. Eureka Moment are achieved by completing various in-game tasks.
The hype is real
The Civilization VI is probably my most anticipated game of 2016 as I happen to be a life long Civ fan. For now there are many leaders/nations already displayed and they all look great. My first nation to play as will most certainly be America. Theo Roosevelt is just too damn appealing and also my favorite history character. All in all, we can only hope that this 2 months will pass by in a blink of an eye as I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait much longer.
