There’s been a lot of excitement around the upcoming The Witcher Netflix TV series today, as we got our first look at Superman actor Henry Cavill in-costume as Geralt of Rivia, but Netflix have also revealed some further casting details too – most notably, who we can expect to see in the major role of sorceress Triss Merigold.

Hollyoaks actress Anna Shaffer has been cast as Triss in the new series for Netflix, who will be joining Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg as the two main sorceresses on The Witcher – and rivals for the affections of Cavill’s Geralt.

Additionally, as revealed by Netflix (via Hollywood Reporter), we can also expect to see Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks: The Return) as Cahir, Joey Batey (Knightfall) as Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Star Wars Rebels) as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson (Wanderlust) as Istredd, Maciej Musiał as Sir Lazlo, and. Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Hunter Street) as Dara.

Lars Mikkelsen is probably the most interesting name there, since he’s the brother of Casino Royale and Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen – who for a long time was the fan-favourite choice for the role of Geralt of Rivia, before it went to Henry Cavill.

Speaking of Henry Cavill, as mentioned Netflix also revealed the first look at The Witcher TV series with a costume test of the actor as Geralt, which you can check out here.

Of course the casting of the series hasn’t been without its controversies – the rumour that Ciri possibly wasn’t going to be played by a white actress set off a wave of criticism around the internet that saw showrunner Lauren Hissrich back away from Twitter for a while. It was proven false, however, as Freya Allen was eventually cast as Ciri.

As for Anna Shaffer, before getting cast as Triss she was best known in the role sof Ruby Button in Hollyoaks and Romilda Vane in the last three Harry Potter films. She has also appeared on Glue, Fearless, and Doctor Who spin-off Class.
