Trait: Heroic Strike

Every 18 seconds, Varian's next Basic Attack deals 145 (+3.5% per level) bonus damage. Basic Attacks reduce this cooldown by 2 seconds.

Abilities

Lion's Fang Mana Cost: 60 Cooldown: 6 seconds Create a shockwave that travels in a straight line, dealing 156 (+4% per level) damage and slowing enemies by 30% for 1.5 seconds.
Parry Mana Cost: 10 Cooldown: 15 seconds Parry all incoming Basic Attacks for 0.75 seconds, reducing their damage by 100%.
Charge Mana Cost: 45 Cooldown: 12 seconds Charge to the target enemy, dealing 52 (+4% per level) damage and slowing them by 75% for 1 second.

Heroics

Taunt Mana Cost: 20 Cooldown: 16 seconds Force the target Hero to attack Varian for 1.25 seconds. Passive: Maximum Health increased by 30%. Passive: Gain 15 Armor.
Colossus Smash Mana Cost: 40 Cooldown: 20 seconds Smash a target enemy, dealing 160 damage and making them Vulnerable for 3 seconds. Passive: Base Attack Damage increased by 100%. Passive: Maximum Health reduced by 10%.

Varian build guide

King Varian Wrynn, often called Lo’Gosh or “The Ghost Wolf” was an ideal ruler. The one who eventually gave his life for the people who he swore to protect, unlike some others we know (yes Arthas, I’m looking your way).

As you know, he came to the world of Heroes of the Storm from WarCraft universe. This is definitely one of the most exciting heroes to play since because of dual personality of Varian and Lo’Gosh, he can be played as a tanky warrior or melee assassin. This Varian build guide will help you to decide which path to follow.

Varian Wrynn

Strengths

  • Strong talent skills overall
  • Enigma in combat; enemy team can have difficulties to figure which role he plays
  • Great basic attack damage output
  • Can clear Mercenary and Boss camps on his own
  • Possesses flexible playstyle
  • Very useful utility talents at level 13

Weaknesses

  • Lacks wave clearing abilities
  • Somewhat weak in the early phase of the game
  • No abilities which can stun
  • Can be difficult to master
  • Escape mechanisms are poor

To master this, let’s be honest, difficult hero, I will give you advice, and those would be the following.

  • If you are following Arms branch, always use Colossus Smash at the beginning of the battle. This is a useful skill which reduces the armor of the target, making it easier for you to secure a kill.
  • Charge will stop at any physical obstacle. Therefore, watch for walls, gates, and towers.
  • When you are uncertain on which talent to choose once you hit level 16, Banner of Ironforge is excellent; it increases the armor of the whole team, which makes all of you much tougher to kill.
  • In case that the opposing team has heroes with low channeling Heroic Abilities, such as Thrall, feel free to ruin their day by hitting them with Taunt.
  • Shattering throw renders heroes who are relying on shields, such as Artanis or Johanna useless.
  • Valla is one the most difficult heroes to deal with while playing Varian, since she possesses high mobility, and can kite you easily. If she is on the opposing team, make sure that you don’t engage her solo. Wait for a team fight, and tell your teammates to focus her.

Overpower When you Parry a Hero's Basic Attack, Heroic Strike's cooldown is refreshed and the next one does 20% more damage.
High King's Quest ❢ Quest: Hit 50 Heroes with Basic Attacks. ❢ Quest: Participate in 5 Hero Takedowns ❢ Quest: Gather 20 Regeneration Globes ❢ Reward: Completing a Quest grants 10 Basic Attack Damage. Completing all 3 Quests grants an additional 45 Basic Attack Damage.

Live by the Sword Increase the duration of Parry by 40%. If at least 4 Hero Basic Attacks are blocked with a single Parry, its cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.
Second Wind Basic Attacks heal Varian for 1% of his maximum Health. While below 50% Health, they also heal him for 50% of the damage dealt.
Victory Rush Every 60 seconds, Varian's next Basic Attack will heal him for 400 (+4% per level) Health. When a nearby enemy Minion or Monster dies, the cooldown is reduced by 15 seconds.
Live by the Sword Increase the duration of Parry by 40%. If at least 4 Hero Basic Attacks are blocked with a single Parry, its cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.
